3 Ways To Get Unstuck: Chase Jarvis

When Lewis Howes recently interviewed Chase Jarvis on Episode 321 of his “School of Greatness” podcast, they discussed many topics. Some of what they discussed include the topics of creativity and the art of entrepreneurship. In particular, they also discussed what it takes to get unstuck and overcome creative blocks. “When it comes time to overcoming our creative blocks, it’s important that we have many solutions” says Chase. We at A Lovers Ambition couldn’t agree more. Facilitating creative ideas requires a certain type of freedom and headspace that as Chase mentions, “Requires us to have a variety of tools in our toolkit.”

Thanks to Lewis Howes, here are Chase Jarvis’ 3 Ways To Get “Unstuck:”

Screen Shot 2016-05-05 at 8.13.36 PM

1. Have Many Solutions

As creative people, it’s important that we learn how to extend our artistic expression across various mediums. For example, if we are a writer, we may want to have an essay, a journal, a novel, some poetry, and a short story. Having multiple activities to tap into within the same main sphere of artistic expression allows us to stay fresh and shift gears from one project to another when necessary.

According to a study read by Chase, he mentions that the ideal number of creative projects to have for a designer is five. It’s important to keep in mind that there are certainly different levels of attention, development, and intensity required for each project. However, if we’re stuck on one thing, having a few options allows us to shift gears and work on something else.

2. Get Away

Sometimes walking away from something allows us to come back with a fresh state of mind and a fresh set of eyes. At times, this may require going to bed. At other times, this may entail seeking adventure, exploration, and discovery. As author Charlie Hoehn would say, “Play It Away.” One of the best strategies to relieve anxiety and stress is to get outside and let it all go. We must ask ourselves, what gives us joy? Is it playing frisbee, going for a walk, people watching, etc? The choice is ours!

3. Tap Into Our Creative Community

“Whether we have mentors, friends, business partners, or teams, we always need people to exchange ideas with” says Chase. Through communicating with other people and sharing ideas and perspectives, we are able to see the world from a different point of view. What better people to reach out to and seek inspiration from than our own creative community? Keep in mind, this doesn’t have to be limited to the people we know in person. Why not seek out some “Virtual Mentors?” There are so many creative and inspiring thought leaders across each and every industry who are delivering highly valuable content on a daily basis. As we like to say, “Find the leaders, learn from the leaders, become the leaders.”

3 Ways We Can Be Just Like Gary Vee!

In February of 2016, LinkedIn hosted it’s local edition of the LinkedIn Speaker Series in NYC. The purpose of LinkedIn’s local edition is to extend it’s global speaker series program through highlighting local rockstars who inspire and inform people to spark conversations and start connections. These conversations are often the result of many of the amazing ideas that are new, next, and noteworthy across various industries and fields.

In this edition of LinkedIn’s Local Speaker Series, one of our favorite guys and LinkedIn influencer, Gary Vaynerchuk chats with LinkedIn’s Senior News Editor, Chip Cutter. Throughout this discussion, Gary offers his advice, insight, and input as unapologetically as always about everything and to everyone within his reach. This even includes telling LinkedIn how their business can be better if their Snapchat account had it’s own version of “The Office” as an effort to make their brand feel more human. “I have very good intuition on what everybody is going to do a lot of times before they even realize they are going to do it” says Gary.

With so much more to offer, please read along for the “3 Ways We Can Be Just Like Gary Vee!”

1. Pay Attention:

One of the reasons why Gary has a very good intuition on what everyone is going to do a lot of times before they even realize they are going to do it is because he pays very close attention to his environment. “Everyone can do what I do.” says Gary. “I wake-up in the morning, grab my phone, look at the App Store’s “100 Top Free Apps”, and look at the charts. That’s real data. I’m not predicting the success of certain companies. This to me is very basic. Don’t be a headline reader. Really read and listen.

2. Train Towards Opportunity:

“I look at history to repeat itself quite a bit” says Gary, “I think pattern recognition is extremely important in what we are living through now because the internet itself is really changing the game and we’re still only 20 years into it.” We have to condition ourselves and train for our future. It’s as if we’re preparing for a marathon. Our life’s destiny is always on the line. We must develop the cadence and context to prepare ourselves for openings and opportunities when they present themselves. “When we know what we want for our lives and we make that shift at all costs, we win” says Gary, “Playing a game that doesn’t map what we actually want it to be is a really big mistake.”

3. Reverse Engineer Everything:

“I sell a ton of stuff by following the people who I want to sell to on social networks, figuring out what they like in the world, and using that information as a way to sell them” says Gary. It’s all about learning from your lead and selling what they need. Gary also mentions that we must eliminate romance. “It’s important to understand what they care about more than what you care about” says Gary, “Build a business that allows you to scale your capabilities and passions. Be a practitioner and engage yourself in what you do. Recognize Patterns. There will be a lot of money to be made if we can buy the companies that we know the big companies in the world are going to have to buy to be successful” says Gary.

Run Your Life As a Marathon: Gary Vee

I tell people this all of the time, “I view life as a marathon, not a sprint.” In fact, I’ve shared this analogy in multiple conversations I’ve had this week alone. It is no coincidence that Gary Vaynerchuk preaches the same philosophy.

Life is too long to sprint through. When we are able to acquire patience, which I believe entails both confidence and competence, we are then able to build towards the long-term results we are looking to achieve.

Embracing Our Strengths: Marie Forleo

On Tuesday, April 12, 2016 we checked out Marie Forleo’s “Q&A Tuesday” on her Marie TV YouTube channel. She addressed the following question from one of the viewers of her show:

“What suggestions do you have for someone who is a kind and positive person yet does not want to be viewed as a liability who is weak and naive?”

Marie’s reply went as follows: “Positivity is a powerful strength. Suppressing who we are is not an option. The future of business is about being more connected to our humanity, not less. This includes our positivity, kindness, enthusiasm, vulnerability, and most importantly our heart.”

Marie goes on to mention, “As human-beings, we need the right conditions to survive and thrive. We are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with. It’s vital that we put ourselves in the right eco-system, one that gives us the chance to flex our strengths. When we put ourselves in the right conditions, we blossom. When we put ourselves in the wrong conditions, we wither and die.”

Lastly, “When we know what makes us strong, it’s important that we don’t settle for less. There is no prize for suffering. We must embrace our strength of positivity and be it daily. Our enthusiasm for life is contagious. It also gives other people permission to be kind, positive, enthusiastic leaders too” says Marie.

What we love the most about Marie’s message is that it covers many critical points when it comes to realizing our greatest potential. Embracing our strengths, regardless of how other people may view them is always vital. Not only is embracing our strengths vital to our success, it is also vital to our overall well-being!

Never Stop Learning: Kevin Poon

Kevin Poon teams up with Infiniti and Hypebeast to discuss creatively challenging his traditional upbringing, learning new things daily, and the importance of having a global perspective when it comes to ideation, leading a team, and innovation. Overall, Poon’s takeaway message is to “Never stop learning”, one of our mantras here at A Lovers Ambition!

Overcoming Obstacles: Tim Storey

This morning I checked out Lewis Howes’ most recent interview on his “School of Greatness” podcast with Tim Storey. Tim had a lot of insight to share on the following topics in regards to how we can both face and overcome our most difficult obstacles in life.

1. Victimization:

Tim mentions, “We have become a nation of victims. We have learned these “victim” stories that have worked for us. It’s so easier to fix the blame than to fix the problem. Our life will be a lot better when we take responsibility for our actions, even if it’s super painful.”

2. Stoping, Looking, Listening:

It’s important that we prepare ourselves to absorb life at it’s fullest. This requires us to be in the moment. We need to stop what we are doing, look at where we are, and listen to our surroundings. We must be fully present, fully living, and fully alive.

3. Valuing Our Dreams:

“Without a dream, we are not living” says Tim. “Dreams are in us, they are in our DNA. When we dial into the real us, we are all dreamers.” Dreaming allows us to raise our ceiling in regards to reaching our highest potential.

What Motivates Us?

Earlier this year at Nick Unsworth’s “Life On Fire” conference, Tai Lopez broke down how we can go about identifying what helps to drive and motivate us toward our purpose. “Our purpose is our end goal that we input into our GPS. However, what we should really be asking ourselves is, “What is the fuel that drives us?” says Tai.

Tai mentions that the 4 primary drivers of motivation are:

1. Money – Money driven

2. Mating – Relationship driven

3. Mastery – Status driven

4. Momentum – Freedom driven

We must ask ourselves, “Which of these four primary motivators drives us to compete? Which of these four primary motivators sparks envy toward others? In this case, envy can be viewed positively as long as it is properly harnessed. As Tai mentions, “Envy is the flashlight that illuminates our inner being.” We are motivated to attain what we envy in others.

What is my primary driver?

From as long as I can remember, I have always been driven by mastery. I always make an effort to be one of the best at what I do. For example, when I entered the 6th grade, I attended I.S. 61 on Staten Island, NY. When I found out that I was not placed in honors classes, I was not very happy to say the least. That year I worked very hard to achieve the status of being on the high-honor roll. As a result, I was moved into honors classes for my 7th grade year.

That same year, I also attended a highly selective 22-month extracurricular program designed to assist eligible NYC public school students in preparing for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (The Bronx High School of Science, Brooklyn Technical High School, Stuyvesant High School). Nonetheless, attending a specialized high school was never really an intention or purpose of mine. Although I did attend the program, I certainly did not maximize my potential.

As fate would have it, I ended up attending St. Peters Boys High School on Staten Island. One week into my freshmen year was September 11, 2001. One of the specialized high schools that I would have attended if admitted, Stuyvesant High School, was so close to the World Trade Center site that it was immediately evacuated and classes did not resume for weeks. In December of 2002, my parents ended up moving our family out of the city to Piscataway, NJ. The rest is history!

Acquire Assets + Increase Value

“Acquire assets and increase value. We get what we deserve in the end if we truly deserve it. It’s not about the setback, it’s all about the get back!” – Tai Lopez

Embrace What’s Difficult: Tai Lopez

Question, would you agree with me if I shared with you my opinion that many people in the world don’t enjoy doing what’s difficult? Ask yourself, do you honestly enjoy doing what’s difficult? Not always? Who does?

Elon Musk once said, “We get paid in direct proportion to the difficulty of the problem(s) that we solve.” Think about it, people who are usually very wealthy contribute a significant amount of energy, time, and value into the problems they are looking to solve. Let’s examine equity for example. My personal philosophy goes as follows: “If you put in the work and trust in yourself, the money will catch up.” The key words are work and trust. We must put in the hard work while maintaining faith and trust in our ability to attract new opportunities and increase our earning potential.

One good way to embrace what’s difficult and increase our earning potential is to figure out the things that other people don’t want to do. One of Tai’s first business mentors said, “Millionaires just do stuff that everyone else won’t.” Although I’m not a millionaire yet, I have heard from people who are very wealthy that the mindset required for being a millionaire entails just this. It’s an ability to take action, clear out distractions, and execute on whatever vision it may be that we lay out for ourselves. In addition, as I was revisiting Sean Covey’s, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens”, I came across a very thought provoking quote summing up Albert E.N. Gray’s years of studying successful people. It goes as follows:

“All successful people have the habit of doing the things failures don’t like to do. They [successful people] don’t like doing them necessarily either. But their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose.”

When we identify our purpose and do a little bit extra, it all begins to add up. From there, it’s only a matter of time before we begin to reap the rewards. It’s important that we learn how to embrace what’s difficult and strive for excellence while overcoming our adversities. We can all aspire to be our greatest selves. Now’s the time to get up, get out, and make it happen!

Time Tells The Truth: Tai Lopez

Yes…I finally have a four word answer to one of the questions I receive pretty often, “Aquaus, how are you so patient?” As my virtual mentor Tai Lopez says, “Time tells the truth.” Indeed it does!

I’ve always believed that I will find out everything that I need to know in due time. I also believe that all of the questions that I pose to myself, others, and the universe at large will always be answered when the time is right. If I don’t have an answer, the time isn’t right. However, this definitely doesn’t mean that I just sit around waiting for answers. No, no, no. In order to execute anything, we must first begin. Once we begin, the race kicks off. However, as I like to say, “Life is not a sprint, it’s a marathon.”

Patience allows us to see many things. As time elapses, we receive various indicators as to how to navigate the myriad of realms in our lives. This includes business, dating, friendships, and relationships just to name a few. When we learn how to love and embrace time, we also learn how to listen and we begin to understand how time tells us the truth. Time tells us what we deserve. We must respect it and keep it on our side. Time must not be taken for granted. When we’re patient, humble, and attentive, we position ourselves to receive what is true for us at a time when it can have the greatest impact on our lives.
