Pay ATTENTION to the NOUNS!!! (Ep. 145; 8/1/19)

Screen Shot 2019-08-22 at 12.26.23 PM

While listening to the 3 year anniversary of the Side Hustle Pro podcast hosted by Nicaila Matthews Okome earlier this month, she mentioned speaking at conferences such as #Summit21 presented by 21Ninety founded by Morgan DeBaun and Woman Evolve founded by Sarah Jakes Roberts. As soon as she dropped the names of these conferences I thought that I would record a video entitled, “Pay ATTENTION to the NOUNS!!! (people, places, things, and ideas)…”⁣

When we pay SUPER CLOSE ATTENTION to the people, places, things, and ideas that we encounter in our daily interactions, we expand our intellectual palate (knowledge, insight, relationships, resources, etc). Through expanding our intellectual palate, we are then able to create the connections and build the relationships that enable us to make a difference in the lives of others while also having our lives impacted by those around us.

How Might We Value Equity?

This post was originally published on LinkedIn on May 7, 2017.

On Sunday May 7, 2017, as I was reading pg. 29 of Keith Ferrazzi‘s, “Never Eat Alone”, I came across a tool which he uses called, “The Relationship Action Plan.” This plan is separated into 3 parts:

1. Developing goals that will help us fulfill our mission.

2. Connecting these goals to the people, places, and things (resources) that will help us get the job done.

3. Determining the best way to reach out to the people who can help us to accomplish our goals.

As I was reading this, it made me reflect on one of my #7DaysOfWisdom videos which I shot back in September of 2016. In this video, I discussed the relationship between sweat equity, relationship equity, and financial equity. In addition to Keith’s “Relationship Action Plan”, I believe that it is highly important for us to understand and value equity.

Equity is something which we can all learn and earn. It starts with the amount of work we decide to put in (sweat equity). Through our sweat equity, we will eventually begin to build the connections and relationships (relationship equity) which lead to opportunities to increase our financial equity and the impact we can have on the lives of others. Let’s stay focused and have fun pursuing the things we love to do in life. Live legendary, leave a legacy!

How Might We Start? (Curate Culture)

How might we start? Curate culture. Promote and support the work of others! Earlier this morning, I was listening to Gary Vaynerchuk’s audio experience podcast on SoundCloud when he mentioned the following, “There’s no excuse for not talking to the world, it just doesn’t have to be our thoughts and words every time.” When I heard this, I thought of one of the sayings I’ve been sharing with people from one of my videos on Instagram back in August 2016 which goes as follows, “When we share our message with the world, we begin to attract opportunities that align with that message.”

Let’s get out there and start doing something. It doesn’t have to be “perfect.” It’s impossible to improve, iterate, and pivot if we have yet to start anything. Curate culture. Curate lifestyle. We are all curators. Our life is a museum and we choose what we want to put on display. If we’re afraid to start a website, start something on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Let’s use the environment, tools, and resources we have around us. Why settle for excuses?

For example, because I live here in New Brunswick, New Jersey, I was inspired to create a community engagement platform entitled, “We Love Hub City” aimed at promoting positivity and inspiring the City of New Brunswick, NJ. We curate the culture, lifestyle, and pulse of the city in which we live. This has led to many great opportunities to build relationships with people who I don’t even have to travel to see! How about that for convenience?

In closing, I really want to see people win. I want to see US WIN! I’m here to build, connect, empower, and inspire others to take action towards fulfilling their dreams. In order for me to continue walking towards my purpose, I must also continue to take action. Let’s take action together!

S/O to Gary Vaynerchuk, VaynerMedia, and Team GaryVee for continuing to put out amazing content and inspire the world to live legendary and leave a legacy. P.S…”Patience and progress is necessary yet speed and execution is everything.”

Brands We LOVE: Black Santa

We came across  The Black Santa Company yesterday evening after noticing that the company followed our @aloversambition account on Instagram. Being as curious as we always are, especially considering our immense interest in emerging brands, culture, and lifestyle; we decided to dig into what the Black Santa movement is all about!

In search of discovering a larger purpose after sustaining a basketball injury, two-time NBA All-Star Baron Davis conceptualized the idea of “Black Santa” after dressing up as Santa Claus one year on Halloween. Realizing just how much of a hit his Black Santa persona was, he then thought to himself, “Black Santa can be someone super cool for the African-American audience such as a character or hero who we can all love and enjoy!” After identifying a real need to create cool contemporary content aimed at African-American and multi-cultural audiences, Baron founded “The Black Santa Company.”

The mission and purpose of The Black Santa Company is to inspire the world by building diverse characters and telling stories that reflect the change in culture. The Black Santa Company aims to create new characters, contemporary and engaging content, and high quality products celebrating diversity, fun, and positivity.

In an article courtesy of Blavity, Baron mentions, “This is a character-focused company that I want to use to expand people’s imaginations, we live in a world that needs a constant reminder of hope and positivity, particularly in neighborhoods like where I grew up (South Central Los Angeles).  I want to give people the ability to dream and imagine something different. I want to make people feel good about themselves.” In addition, Baron also shares that The Black Santa Company is here to provide a feel good and positive angle and spin on storytelling. “I just want to make people smile” says Baron.

At The Black Santa Company, they also believe that giving has no season. They encourage year round acts of kindness and want to highlight the people who do too. “Our world is culturally diverse. That’s why our mission is to create positive characters that embody the multi-cultural spirit of our society.” – The Black Santa Company

Along with The Black Santa Company, we here at A Lovers Ambition Lifestyle Group also believe that the power of giving and gratitude should be celebrated and practiced all year round. Every season can be a holiday season when we decide to live in accordance with a compassionate, joyful, and grateful mindset and philosophy. We admire Baron for stepping into the role of servant leadership and leveraging his influence to create social change in an effort to inspire the world. As another favorite guy of ours, Gary Vaynerchuk often mentions, “It’s time that we begin to make positivity LOUDER!”

When I spoke to my good friend Thomas Johnson Jr. on our weekly accountability call, we spoke about how epic it was for Lewis Howes to interview one of the greatest interviewers of our time, Larry King. I also shared with Thomas the backstory of how I initially came across Lewis and lewishowes.com, through googling one of my favorite quotes, “Live legendary, leave a legacy.”

Thomas encouraged me to make time to appreciate Lewis via social media for all that he has done for us in regards to sharing his greatness with the world and inspiring others to live the lives of their dreams. We appreciate you brother! May all of your success lead you to achieving your future goals of interviewing Will Smith, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Oprah Winfrey. It’s all going to happen very soon. We’re happy to be a part of your tribe and join you for the ride! #ALOVERSAmbition #SchoolOfGreatness

3 Ways To Get Unstuck: Chase Jarvis

When Lewis Howes recently interviewed Chase Jarvis on Episode 321 of his “School of Greatness” podcast, they discussed many topics. Some of what they discussed include the topics of creativity and the art of entrepreneurship. In particular, they also discussed what it takes to get unstuck and overcome creative blocks. “When it comes time to overcoming our creative blocks, it’s important that we have many solutions” says Chase. We at A Lovers Ambition couldn’t agree more. Facilitating creative ideas requires a certain type of freedom and headspace that as Chase mentions, “Requires us to have a variety of tools in our toolkit.”

Thanks to Lewis Howes, here are Chase Jarvis’ 3 Ways To Get “Unstuck:”

Screen Shot 2016-05-05 at 8.13.36 PM

1. Have Many Solutions

As creative people, it’s important that we learn how to extend our artistic expression across various mediums. For example, if we are a writer, we may want to have an essay, a journal, a novel, some poetry, and a short story. Having multiple activities to tap into within the same main sphere of artistic expression allows us to stay fresh and shift gears from one project to another when necessary.

According to a study read by Chase, he mentions that the ideal number of creative projects to have for a designer is five. It’s important to keep in mind that there are certainly different levels of attention, development, and intensity required for each project. However, if we’re stuck on one thing, having a few options allows us to shift gears and work on something else.

2. Get Away

Sometimes walking away from something allows us to come back with a fresh state of mind and a fresh set of eyes. At times, this may require going to bed. At other times, this may entail seeking adventure, exploration, and discovery. As author Charlie Hoehn would say, “Play It Away.” One of the best strategies to relieve anxiety and stress is to get outside and let it all go. We must ask ourselves, what gives us joy? Is it playing frisbee, going for a walk, people watching, etc? The choice is ours!

3. Tap Into Our Creative Community

“Whether we have mentors, friends, business partners, or teams, we always need people to exchange ideas with” says Chase. Through communicating with other people and sharing ideas and perspectives, we are able to see the world from a different point of view. What better people to reach out to and seek inspiration from than our own creative community? Keep in mind, this doesn’t have to be limited to the people we know in person. Why not seek out some “Virtual Mentors?” There are so many creative and inspiring thought leaders across each and every industry who are delivering highly valuable content on a daily basis. As we like to say, “Find the leaders, learn from the leaders, become the leaders.”
